How to Arrange Affordable Prescription Delivery

Help your loved one get well by ensuring medicine is easily available. Don’t forget over-the-counter medicine, vitamins and supplements.

You can help with prescription drugs in a way that makes a real difference.

  1. Get a current list of medicines and dosages (protect that information by discussing over the phone, using fax or paper mail)
  2. Find out whether their pharmacy delivers.
  3. Check with their prescription insurance for delivery options.
  4. Help your loved one set up regular prescription deliveries.
  5. Look for discounts to make their medicine more affordable.

Don’t forget non-prescription medicine and supplements used on a regular basis. Things like allergy medicine, pain relievers, bandaging supplies, antacids are often available with food deliveries.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

If your loved one is receiving Medicare, they most likely already have a prescription drug plan that offers delivery. You can find the member services phone number on the back of their plan card. Arrange a time for a conference call – insurance companies won’t discuss their plan without the member present.

Tips on Medicare insurance:

  • If your loved one’s prescriptions seem expensive, consider looking for a different plan.
  • Meanwhile, check out the online discount plans for discount coupons. Check the coupon dosage carefully – make sure it matches the dosage your loved one uses.
  • Rx plans can be changed every year during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15th to Dec 7th) for plans that start Jan 1st of the next year.
  • Part C (also called Advantage Plans) typically but not always include prescription drug plans. If the prescriptions are costly, it might be worth changing Advantage plans. Careful – health care providers are NOT in network for all plans. It can be challenging to find a suitable replacement because individual doctors can choose NOT to be on a plan even if their office is a member.
  • Some plans include non-prescription drug store credits for things like toothpaste, shampoo, vitamins, and over-the-counter medicines.
  • Next Steps:

Once you have details on the prescriptions, over-the-counter medicine, vitamins and supplements it’s time to do some research. Use the links above to check out online discounts. Check out our blog “Help With Online Shopping” for items available with food deliveries.
